You Can Get Involved!
The weekend of August 1-3 is Jamm for Genes weekend. It’s easy to get involved in Jamm for Genes by putting on a music related fundraiser. You can be very elaborate and organise a big event, or you can keep it simple and just turn a standard gig into a fundraiser.
Just Four Easy Steps…
- Register
- Find, plan, organise, and promote the event (some venues will raise money on one night only, others raise money all weekend long – it’s up to you)
- Have a Jamm!
- Deposit the money!
The most successful events in 2007 were the ones where one person took responsibility for the Jamm for Genes event, where the team had a vision about how much they wanted to raise, where the venues and the bands worked together to promote the gig, where the MC and/or the band engaged the audience, and where the organiser recruited helpers to get the word out and to collect the money on the night. It was simple, achievable, and fun!
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Jamm for Genes provide the bands?
No. You are responsible for finding bands, and planning, organising, and promoting the event.
Will bands play for free?
To help raise money, bands may be willing to play for a discounted rate or even for free. You need to either pay bands to play or recruit bands that are willing to donate all or part of their normal fee to charity. If you are not paying standard rates, clearly state how money will be raised so that musicians will be confident that their discounted work will result in greater fundraising.
Do I have to register the event?
Yes, you cannot claim to be raising money for Jamm for Genes at a gig without an official registration.
Can we ask people to donate money?
Yes, if you are registered, you can collect money on behalf of Jamm for Genes. We will provide you with training, an official Jamm for Genes ID card, and a sealed Jamm Jar for the money to be put into. 100% of collections must be deposited to the Jeans for Genes account and a copy of the deposit slip should be sent to Kelly at kmorgan@jeansforgenes.org.au or faxed to Kelly on 02 9687 2120
How much money do we need to raise to make it worthwhile?
Every little bit adds up to a lot. Once you’ve registered, we’ll send you information and ideas about how to raise lots of money. Every deposit counts.
Besides feeling good about raising money for a great cause, what’s in it for us?
Jamm for Genes provides a great opportunity to increase your public profile with your clientele, your employees, and in your community. We encourage you to promote your event to the local media. Also, we encourage you to send us information about your Jamm event (before and after) and we will include it on the Jamm for Genes website and in our press releases about the event. You will receive a certificate that you can display to show your participation.
