How is Money Raised?
As a registered event coordinator, we will send you a sanction letter that confirms that you are holding an event to raise money for the Jeans for Genes campaign. You will also get a deposit slip and all the other information you will need. You are responsible for collecting funds, reconciling accounts, and for depositing the money raised into the Jeans for Genes account after your Jamm event.
Our Top 10!
You have options with Jamm for Genes. Below we have listed our top 10 ideas - you can do any or all of these. You simply need to be honest and transparent to everyone about how much money is going to be given to the charity.
- Get the fundraising team, the band, the bartenders, the school kids, the business... everyone to buy and wear Jamm for Genes T-Shirts.
- Have registered Jamm Genie (that's what we call our volunteers) walk around at the gig and collect donations. Anyone who donates $5 or more gets a Jamm Dog Tag**.
- Have registered Jamm Genies collect money at the entry to the gig.
- Add a specific amount to the ticket price to give to the charity. If that amount is at least $5, each person who comes in can be given a Jamm Dog Tag.
- Put Jamm boxes on the bar and ask atendees if they would like to put their change to the Jamm Box (you can do this leading up to the Jamm for Genes weekend, too as part of your event promotion). All money put into the Jamm Box must go to the charity.
- If you have a merch desk, sell Jeans for Genes merch, too. Order here!
- Have a raffle! Get local businesses to donate goodies that people would want and sell raffle tickets. If you are really organised, you can start to sell raffle tickets to people before the event.
- Get sponsors! Sponsors might contribute money to help you cover or goods to help you keep costs down. Venue managers might offer their venue for free or a reduced rate - if they do, they are a sponsor. Bands might offer to play for free or a reduced rate - if they do, they are a sponsor. Hire companies might offer band equipment. Printers might offer poster or flyer printing. Local papers might offer advertising space. These are all examples of sponsors. Thank them profusely!
- Set a fundraising goal! It's a great way to motivate you, your sponsors, and your audience.
- Promote the charity. Don't be shy in telling people that you are promoting Jamm for Genes that night (or all weekend). We suggest that you have an MC work the room throughout the event to get people's attention and ask them to dig deep.
We hope this information will help you plan your Jamm for genes event.
** Jamm Dog Tags are available on a first come, first served basis - we will send all registered event managers a quantity of Jamm Dog Tags based on how many people they estimate will attend. The Jamm Dog Tags are individually numbered and will be associated with a campaign-wide prize pool.
